Churchill breaks ground as a scientific study approaching homosexuality

of life and introduces the term "homoerotophobia," a possible precursor
to "homophobia"
- The Oscar Wilde Bookshop, the world's first gay-oriented
bookstore, opens in New York City
- A raid on the Black Cat Bar in San Francisco promotes
gay rights activity
- A federal court in Minneapolis rules that it is not illegal to produce and mail materials depicting the male nude
- ONE Inc., the nation's oldest homophile group, celebrates its 15th anniversary
