Palin Resigns as Governor of Alaska

In a shocking announcement on Friday, Alaska governor and former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin announced she is resigning from office.

Palin was vague about her reasons for stepping down, saying she felt she could make more changes by working outside of government.

The announcement has stirred speculation that she is focusing on a bid for the 2012 Republican nomination for president, though doing so after resigning her post as governor would make any bid for the White House an uphill battle.

Spokesman Dave Murrow said that Palin will step down on July 26 and Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell will be inaugurated at the governor's picnic in Fairbanks at the end of the month.

Palin was popular among conservatives when Republican presidential nominee John McCain first announced she'd be his running mate, but her popularity faded over the course of the campaign as she became a frequent punch line for liberal political strategists. She supported numerous antigay platforms during the 2008 election but always maintained she had many friends who are gay .

That article is wrong on one point, Sarah Palin said exactly why she was leaving. The cost to the Alaskan taxpayers fighting frivolous lawsuits and ethics complaints was taking money from the state and taking up her staff's time. She ran to make government more efficient, not less. I hope she does something on a national scale. Remember, she gave gay and lesbian partners full benefits in Alaska. Obama has a majority and can't find time to repeal DOMA.

If she does run for president in 2012, I strongly recommend the first thing she should do is say she's glad to be in the REAL AMERICA the next time she's in a small redneck town! That will definitely make all of us unamerican people vote for her! IDIOT!!!!

The (few) mainstream Repubs will never support her......what happened to "normal" Republicans like Ike or Reagan? (Just kidding, but they were not so certifiably nuts like the current bunch). As for any book deals, I can't believe she ever read a book---let alone could write one. She'll take the money and run. As for her governorship skills, its easy to run something when its awash in money like Alaska is.

oh yeah. i'll bite to pjr's comment of, "only the welfare gays are obama supporters". true to form, YOUR ignorance continues to shine....inclusive of your self hatrid and stupidity. "welfare gays"? is that the "new" missive spouting from phobes like you? i am a medical professional who voted for and supported obama. i am curious to know how your own personal resentment refers to "gays" as being "welfare"? humour me. what exactly does that refer or mean to? and another curiosity that wonders me is why a self hating bigot and racist like you and others, "feels" the "need" to participate on a site such as the advocate. and puhleeeze spare me the regurgitated rehtoric of "freeedom of choice/speech". humour those of us that are just simply interested in learning the warped mentality of minds like yours.

I just want to point out too, since the article did not mention this, but she is stepping down with almost two years left in her 1st term. ALMOST TWO YEARS. She hasn't even completed 1 term as the Alaskan governor. She purports to be stepping down because she wants to serve something greater than her self - I guess the entire state of Alaska just isn't enough. It will be very sad, with her resume, if she is the major 2012 contender for the White House.

What's Obama done for you cause my gay friends. That's the one thing the majority likes about black man Obama, the one thing he's got right, and that is his black cultural roots won't let him approve deep down of anything homosexuality as right! Palin would defend marriage, a red herring issue GLAAD and others use to puff up donations, but Palin would likely also do more than Obama to make sure gays don't suffer oppression! Besides, most gays don't want the government in their wallets either! Only the welfare gays are Obama supporters!!

Oh, because she stepped down in such haste, I don't buy what she is saying (especially since she is such a liar). I can't wait to find out what caused Palin to step down like she couldn't wait to get out of Dodge.

Palin and her supporters remind me of the Dixiecrats during the late 1950's in the sense that they didn't wanted to move forward, felt the rest of the country was abandoning what had made this country great and felt the liberals were out to destroy this country. It's like the pendulum swings back and forth and now the pendulum has swung back to where we were at in the late 50's just before the changes started taking place. The irony is that during the 1960's the groundwork was laid for, among other things, women to be in positions of power. Palin owes the opportunities she has to the liberals of yesteryear. The next few years should be very interesting.
