Gay Student Receives Death Threats

Death Threat x390 (Photos.com) | Advocate.com

A gay student at Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C., received two threats against his life last week that cited his sexual orientation in a derogatory way.

The threats occurred on Monday and Thursday via two separate notes -- one taped to a dorm room door and the other dropped via rock through the student’s window -- that used the same antigay slur, according to the video from the local Fox affiliate.

“You don't deserve life like the rest of the world,” said the note delivered on Thursday. “It's bad enough with out all the gay crap pulling people down. It's sick, unnatural, and death is almost too good for you. Almost."

Many students were reportedly shocked to learn about the crime, and the college administration promised to hold the perpetrator(s) accountable. No suspects have been identified, and friends say the victim is doing well, all things considered.

The Guilford College gay pride organization plans a march on Wednesday in response to the incident.

It's bad enough without all the bigotry pulling people down. Hate is unnatural and sick.

I grew up in this area. In fact, as a high school student, I stayed at this college during a band camp twice. It is a tough place to grow up. As an adult, I still deal with heavy issues from being tormented and harrassed for being gay. At least this student is getting attention from the school authorities and making the news. I didn't even have that. I see this as progress....not the kind I am looking for, but it is progress. I do not wish this type of torment on anyone. Being a victim with no where to turn is very painful. Lets all work together to help those in places who have to live through things like this. It takes a special kind of courage and strength to deal with this. Don't look at them as a victim but rather a "path maker". They are out living in the "jungle" with scary predators. Eventually, we will all win our right to live anywhere peacefully, but gay people are everywhere and we must forge our places in society EVERYWHERE....with dignity.

I hope they find whoever did this and prosecute his sorry ass to the fullest extent of the law - I don't care WHAT age he/she might be. These kids feel emboldened to do these things because they are bombarded with anti-gay news all the time. "Religious" people (who are merely brainwashed lovers of mythology) - spout off anti-gay rhetoric all the time, politicians do the same and gay rites are constatntly put up to a "popular vote" as if GLBT people need to prove their worth to Str8 people - how pathetic. What a sad country this can be at times. I wish this student well and hope he receives all the support and security he needs.

This world is filled with violence and hate and it just makes me sick to my stomach to think about. My heart goes out to this student and I hope they find out who is doing these terrible things and that they pay for what they've done. I hope one day all of this will be a thing of the past...
