Vitter Doesn't Know Loving v. Virginia

David Vitter X390 (GETTY) | ADVOCATE.COM

For weeks reporters have been trying to get U.S. senator David Vitter of Louisiana to comment on Keith Bardwell, the Louisiana justice of the peace who last month refused to marry an interracial couple.

Now Mike Stark of The Stark Report says the reason Vitter has refused comment is that he’s never read Loving v. Virginia, the landmark 1967 Supreme Court decision that ended all race-based legal restrictions on marriage.

Stark cornered Vitter on camera and asked for his comment. Vitter’s response? “I haven’t read the case.” Vitter went on to say, "quite frankly, I'm focused on health care."

What an idiot. One doesn't need to be a lawyer or read the case to know that what the justice of the peace in LA is doing is illegal and simply racist. Vitter needs to do the right thing and just say the justice of the peace is wrong and it will not be tolerated.

who has "NOT" read or heard of loving v VA. ( somewhat like prodessing ignorance about Brown V Board of education. it would be grand if the citizens would vote his ignorant ass out of office, but typically he is a small picture ingrained into the "bigger problem", voting him out of office will make NO dent in a bigger chunk...the, "dent" only gets replaced by someone attached or related to the bigger picture.

Is Vitter a lawyer? If he is, I find it difficult to believe that he went through law school without having read Loving v. Virginia. Besides, it's a VERY SIMPLE case. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that marriage is a fundamental right, which cannot be denied on the basis of such things as race.

Why would you expect anything else? This is a radical anti-gay activist who "protects" the sanctity of his marriage by committing adultery and cavorting with prostitutes.

Considering we only elect our politicians for entertainment; I'm kind of wondering why this is the most interesting/wrong/heinous/stupid thing one of them has done lately. Though, we did have the only Republican, Cao, who voted for the Health bill in the House and the person he replaced, Jefferson, was found guilty of bribery. But, Jefferson after his current appeal is up will probably just get a nice, comfy cell next to Governor Edwards and they can go play golf together everyday in their minimum security federal prison. Ah to be a Louisianan.

Typical hypocrisy and stupidity of these right wing jerks. He admitted to cheating on his wife with prostitutes (DC Madam), but can't take the time to inform himself on a landmark law that effects the lives of others wanting to marry, not to mention his anti-gay rights voting record. He is disgusting.

His staff should be humiliated beyond the beyond for not informing him if he has been questions on this for weeks and weeks as reported. Of course, that doesn't excuse him for being an uninformed dolt.

Vitter is a national embarrassment. However, the Democratic Party is running an equally stupid candidate against him, Melancon, who voted against the Hate Crimes bill and his own party's health care bill. Why do Democrats think someone who is just as bad as Vitter will have any appeal?
