SATC Actor Fights Gay Rumor in Court

RON LIVINGSTON PROMO X390 | Advocate.com

Actor Ron Livingston, who played Carrie Bradshaw's boyfriend Jack Berger in the HBO series Sex and the City, is suing an unnamed person for spreading "malicious" rumors on the actor’s Wikipedia page suggesting that Livingston is gay and in a longterm relationship with a man named Lee Dennison.

TMZ

reports, "According to the lawsuit, filed [Friday] in L.A. County Superior Court, the Wiki-hacking began back in May—and every time Ron’s reps remove the false info from his Wiki page ... the bandit 'changes them back almost immediately.' The same suspect is believed to have created fake Facebook pages for Livingston and Dennison, both of which state that the men are in a relationship."

Livingston, who is married to actress Rosemarie DeWitt, is suing for libel, invasion of privacy, and for using his name and likeness without permission.

If Hollywood Is Okay With Gay, Then Why Are Actors Like Ron Livingston So Afraid Of Coming Out Of The Closet? http://christwire.org/2009/12/if-hollywood-is-okay "Take the case of actor Ron Livingston. He is a cut and paste West Coast liberal, having appeared in numerous young male roles. With his chiseled jaw and scruffy ambiguity, gays and women alike find him alluring and easy. Yet when one internet encyclopedia included him in a list of homosexual actors and outed his boyfriend, Livingston was so upset he hired a team of lawyers to suppress the information. Livingston was even a regular character on the gay-themed, sexually explicit tv show “Sex and the City,” yet he can’t accept homosexuality in his real life. In a lawsuit filed this week in Los Angeles, California Superior Court against an anonymous internet author, the actor claims the accusations that he is gay are, “malicious and just plain awful.” He is seeking unspecified damages (which usually means millions of dollars)."

I don't understand or really feel good about wikipedia for exactly this type of thing. I dont get the value of an information page that seems to always have mis-information on it. No fact checking, no restrictions on changing of info. I never look at wiki references on Google, because who can believe them?? If I could give Ron Livingston one piece of reassurance: Nobody can really take Wikipedia seriously.

Ron Livingston's best character is that of Captain Nixon in the "Band of Brothers" mini series. Office space was fun but not a stretch. The dudes being cyber harased and should put the stalker bothering him outa business and in a psychariatric hospital.

It is malicious and libel, not to mention harassment, further proof that Wikipedia isn't exactly the best source for information, yet shows up at the top of search engines cause so many go to it.

It's not a question of whether being called gay is a bad thing. The wiki-editing fool could as easily say that Livingston is from Montana, or has blond hair, or some other random untruth. To make a false claim over and over is harassment, plain and simple.

When Anna Nicloe's lawyer-Howard K. Stern, brought a law suit against a man for calling him gay, the judge threw it out because he said there was nothing wrong with being gay- hope that set a precedent.

Interesting story... A year ago while having dinner at the Elephant & Castle restaurant with a friend I noticed an attractive man sitting a few tables away checking me out, after four or five minutes of intense eye action, wondering why he looked familiar, I realized he was the guy from SATC but I could not remember his name (I later Googled him) He may not be acting on any feelings or desires for men, but he most definitely seemed interested.

I think he has every right to protect his personal integrity - It's clearly a case of so-called online bullying. It's done to a lot of unknown people too and it always has devastating effects. Even if he had such a relationship with this other man, that unknown person's constant attempts to spread this information all over the internet is clearly the sign of a deeply deranged mind. And you should always seek legal protection from lunatics who happen to regard you as some sort of target. I seriously don't think he's homophobic in any way. His general behavior ( - I'm judging from the media), appearance and choice of roles really speaks against that. I mean - he certainly doesn't come across as some primitive redneck-type of person. Well, I admit I really like him and I support his position in this ( and I would support his position in this even if I didn't like him).

I will address a couple of different posts in one reply. First off he is married so I'm sure that if a woman posted a fake story about him havng an affair with another woman he would deny it. Secondly, the man is straight, why shouldn't he vigorously deny allegations to the contrary? Imagine if someone went on Portia DiRossi's Wiki page claiming that she was involved in a heterosexual relationship with some guy while she is married to Ellen, everyone on here would be throwing a fit. There is nothing wrong with being gay, there is nothing wrong with being straight, and there is nothing wrong with a straight person not wanting to be thought of as gay. Denying gay rumors is not a slam against gay people, we should not look at it as that. Imagine how his wife feels when she reads stuff like that. Lighten up people, let the man be who he is and defend himself.

Maybe he needs the media attention. Say "gay" and every magazine and tv station is on it. And ratings are everything.
