McGreevey's Ex Opposes Gay Marriage
Dina Matos, the ex-wife of gay former New Jersey governor James
McGreevey, said Wednesday that the state senate was right to
reject the marriage equality bill last week.
Dina Matos, the ex-wife of gay former New Jersey governor James McGreevey, said Wednesday that the state senate was right to reject the marriage equality bill last week.
According to the Daily Record, Matos made the remark in an interview before her speech to a service organization in Morristown.
"We have the civil union law in place, which I think is wonderful," said Matos, the Daily Record reported.
"I was raised a Catholic," she said. "I grew up in the church, so I believe in traditional marriage between a man and a woman."
Matos shares a daughter with McGreevey, who is now seeking to become an Episcopal priest and is in a relationship with a man whom he says he would like to marry.
According to the Daily Record, Matos also said Wednesday that if she were to do it over again, she might not stand by McGreevey's side as she did in 2004 when he proclaimed that he was gay.
