Florida governor Charlie Crist said Thursday that he is opposed to repealing the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy.
The governor, who is locked in a tight Republican U.S. Senate primary race with the more conservative Marco Rubio, announced his stance through a spokeswoman, according to the St. Petersburg Times.
"We are a nation at war. The governor believes the current policy has worked, and there is no need to make changes," Crist campaign spokeswoman Amanda Henneberg said, the Times reported.
Governor Crist is a subject of the film Outrage, which alleges that he privately engages in gay sex while voting against gay interests.
