Seventy-three percent of veterans from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan said they felt comfortable around gay and lesbian colleagues, including 37% who said they are "very comfortable," according to a report by the Vet Voice Foundation.

The percentage jumps to 80% when only younger veterans are counted, but even among older veterans only 7% said they were "very uncomfortable" around gays and lesbians.

In all, 60% agreed that sexual orientation has little bearing on a service member's ability to perform their duties. The same survey showed that 67% of respondents felt the same way about gender, and 82% felt the same about race.
