Immediately after this afternoon's Senate vote preventing debate of the National Defense Authorization Act, Sen. John McCain met with a group of journalists including The Advocate's Kerry Eleveld and Metro Weekly's Chris Geidner and insisted that the military does not "go out and seek to find out if someone's sexual orientation."

At the meeting, Eleveld confronted McCain, who suggested to the room of journalists that the private e-mails of military members have never been searched. When Eleveld reminded him that there have been documented cases, McCain responded, "They do not, they do not, they do not. You can say that they are, you can say [inaudible] it's not true! ... Yeah, I'd like to see ... "

McCain was interrupted by Geidner, who reminded him about that happening to Air Force major Mike Almy. McCain responded, "Bring them to our office. It is not the policy, it is not the policy, it is not the policy."
