South Carolina senator Lindsey Graham said on Fox News Sunday that the Senate has "nowhere near" enough votes to repeal the law that bars gays and lesbians from serving openly in the military.

Graham told host Chris Wallace that the vote over "don't ask, don't tell" won't happen during the lame-duck session starting this week.

The Senate Armed Services Committee is holding hearings on the bill this week. Connecticut senator Joe Lieberman, who is leading the repeal effort in the Senate, said earlier this month that he is confident there are more than 60 votes to support the defense authorization bill that includes an amendment to repeal "don't ask, don't tell."
