The brother of Joel Burns, the Forth Worth city councilman who gained widespread acclaim for his "It Gets Better" video last year, died from injuries he sustained in a vehicle crash on Saturday.

According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, "Cody Burns, 27, of Stephenville was killed on County Road 522 about 12 miles south of Stephenville, according to Texas Department of Public Safety reports. He was driving west when he lost control of his pickup, which overturned when it left the road, reports say."

Burns was driving the truck with two passengers. One of the passengers was in critical condition at Texas Health Stephenville Hospital after the accident.

A funeral will be held Wednesday for Burns in Crowley.

Joel Burns, 42, delivered an emotional speech about antigay bullying on the council floor in October that has been viewed millions of times on the Internet.
