Santorum: Gays Have "Gone Out on a Jihad" Against Me

Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum, whose antigay metaphors of comparing napkins to paper towels and napkins to cars have become legendary, told a crowd in Spartanburg, South Carolina, that the gay community has waged a jihad against him over his opposition to marriage equality.

The alleged holy war against him hasn't silenced the former senator from Pennsylvania, however, who continued to deride gay marriage in his own inimitable way.

"I said 'this is a napkin,'" he said. "'This is a napkin. A napkin is what a napkin is. It isn't a paper towel. It isn't a car.' You can call a napkin a car, but it doesn't make it a car. You can call a paper towel a chair, but it doesn't make it a chair. Marriage is what marriage is."

Santorum went on to say that same-sex marriage will not only destroy the institution of marriage, it will destroy the faith community and "ghetto-ize as bigots" those who "preach the biblical truth."
