A jury in St. Paul, Minnesota, has convicted a man of the rape and aggravated robbery of a transgender man.

Pioneer Press reports that Demetrius Miller, 33, was at a BP gas station when he met the victim, who, according to trial testimony, he thought was "a dude." The two shared a cigarette and the victim offered Miller some marijuana.

When they went into the alley behind the gas station, Miller beat and robbed the victim. According to the story, "during the struggle, the victim's shorts were pulled down; Miller realized his victim was biologically female and then committed the rape."

The jury did not believe Miller's claim that the sex was consensual.

Miller will be sentenced November 17.
