Art that captures the moment and reflects images back to us that both charm and gently jab us is a hard act to pull off. John Held Jr. did it with his vamps and sheiks of the ’20s. Patrick Nagel created the sexual ideals of the ’70s and early ’80s. And as the work in Sean O’Connor’s upcoming show at the Leslie-Lohman Museum demonstrates, he has captured the current moment of "bromosexuality," selfie-ism, and gym culture. That his art has a disciplined retro look of vintage fabrics and wallpaper just adds extra charm.
