Read about these marriage equality murals by Joe Caslin by clicking 'MORE'
Joe Caslin’s supersize murals are immediately arresting and appropriate to the environment at the same time. First they are printed out on huge rolls of paper with biodegradable inks. Then, depending on the size of the mural, he employs a partner or a team with cherry-pickers and hoists.
Caslin’s latest big project, pictured above, is a five-story mural of two women who married in the U.S. but who live in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The mural was mounted to coincide with Belfast Pride in cooperation with Smirnoff.
"Northern Ireland is the only territory now on the islands of Western Europe that doesn't have same-sex marriage — and it's same-sex marriage, not civil partnership," Caslin told BBC Radio Ulster.
Besides Caslin’s marriage equality murals — one of which we covered last year — his project Our Nation’s Sons covers mental health, depression, suicide, and the role of men in Irish society. You can see more of his work on his website.
