One of the
real-life inspirations for this season's gay story line on
the HBO drama series The Sopranos will likely
spend the rest of his life behind bars. Stefano Vitabile,
71, was given life in prison on Monday for ordering
the 1992 killing of gay mafia boss John D'Amato.
In 2003 the man
who made the hit, Anthony Capo, told a jury, "Nobody's
going to respect us if we have a gay homosexual boss
sitting down discussing business with other families." Capo
admitted to shooting D'Amato in the back seat of a
car. The real-life events were the inspiration for the
"outing"—and killing—of character Vito
Spatafore in the new season of The Sopranos.
On Monday a jury
found Vitabile guilty of conspiring in this and two
other mob-related murders as well as conspiring to commit
extortion. He was sentenced to life in
prison. (Sirius OutQ News)
