U.K. pop singer
Lily Allen was detained at Los Angeles International
Airport for five hours after officials found that her
U.S. work visa had been canceled. She is
scheduled to begin a concert tour across the
United States in September, according to the BBC, and
had been slated to arrive in time for the MTV Video
Music Awards announcements on Tuesday.
Her visa
cancellation was in connection with her June arrest for an
alleged assault, preceded by another in March. Both
incidents took place in London.
Allen was
questioned during her detainment but not strip-searched, her
spokesperson said.
"I am trying
everything I can to sort this out," Allen said in a
statement. "I want my fans to know that I will do everything
I can to be back in America in September. I don't like
letting my fans down, and this is a situation that I
am sure we can sort." (The Advocate)
