Norway Becomes Sixth Country to Permit Gay Marriage

Members of Norway's parliament approved a bill Wednesday that will allow same-sex couples to wed in civil marriages.

Members of Norway's parliament approved a bill Wednesday that will allow same-sex couples to wed in civil marriages, according to Agence France-Presse.

The new law, which passed 84–41, requires that the terminology in marriage documents be gender-neutral.

A 1993 law gave gay and lesbian couples the right to enter into civil unions, similar to marriage, but they could not be wed in church or adopt children. The new law allows adoption and permits lesbians to be artificially inseminated.

Norway becomes the sixth country to allow gay marriage, joining Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, South Africa, and Canada in legislating full marriage equality. (The Advocate)

If Barack Obama chooses EITHER Hillary Clinton OR General Wesley Clark (a great friend of the GLBT community featured in one of The Advocate's past issues) to run with him for Vice President then he WILL BE our next president. Let's hope he sees this clearly and not go with Webb of Virginia (too 'little known) or one of the other unknowns. Americans like to vote for the "familiar". Let's keep our fingers crossed that one of these two gets chosen. I think DADT will be overturned in this case.

I think its awsome that another country can be added to the list of countries around the world that recognize the love between a person and their same sex partner. It will take time but it will happen in the U.S.A. I know it and I believe it.
