OUTMusic, the LGBT Academy of Recording Arts, has launched a Kickstarter campaign, in order to raise funds to complete a documentary about queer music culture.
The documentary, titled For Which WE Stand (One Queer Music Nation in the Visible), will be produced by Paul Warner and directed by gay filmmaker Sean Robinson, who was recently profiled by The Advocate. OUTMusic has set its fundraising goal at $200,000, to be reached by the end of September.
"I'm very excited to be directing this film, and with the success of this Kickstarter Campaign, we will produce a socially and politically pro-active feature-length documentary film, that will not only spotlight queer music culture, but will keep the torch of LARA burning, as the fight for equality moves forward into the next era," Robinson said in a recent statement. His past work includes Outer Banks, Naked - A Musical Short Film, and The Puritans.
For Which WE Stand will highlight performances from the OUTMusic Awards, which will also be directed by Robinson and will take place in Las Vegas in January 2014. The annual awards show shines a spotlight on underrepresented LGBT artists.
Founded 23 years ago by life partners Michael Biello and Dan Martin, OUTMusic seeks to promote and preserve LGBT music culture. In addition to honoring the achievement of artists in this community, the organization also fosters the development of emerging talent.
