In early June, Logo announced that it would be recognizing The Advocate in its Trailblazer Honors in New York. In the fight for LGBT equality, this publication has been there from the very beginning, as Michael Musto explained. The author of The Village Voice's riotously funny La Dolce Musto column for almost three decades, Musto has witnessed firsthand the transformation of the LGBT rights movement as it shed its stigma and gained widespread acceptance. But because it was openly gay from its founding, the pre-Stonewall publication was ostracized by the public. "Advocate was a bit of an outsider from mainstream society," he told Logo. "But that also gave it its stamp."
