10. TV: One Night Stand Up: Dragtastic! NYC
Filmed live at New York's Bowery Ballroom and hosted by RuPaul's Drag Race fan favorite Pandora Boxx, this hour-long all-drag stand-up comedy special premieres January 17 on Logo as part of the network's third annual National Drag History Month. With performers Hedda Lettuce, Kelly Mantle, Bianca Del Rio, and Harmonica Sunbeam taking the stage, look out for a raunchier, uncensored version to air in the wee hours.
9. DVD: Taxi zum Klo
In this autobiographical 1981 German film, which The Village Voice hailed as "the first masterpiece about the mainstream of male gay life," a gay teacher in Berlin spices up his life with nightly hookups in public restrooms -- hence the title's English translation of "taxi to the john." Special features on this new digitally remastered 30th anniversary collector's edition include an interview with writer, director, and star Frank Ripploh.
8. TV: Brooklyn Kinda Love
This extremely revealing soft core documentary series, which premieres January 15 on Playboy TV, makes Jersey Shore look like Toy Story 3. The Emmy-winning team behind Taxicab Confessions exposes the raw sexual passions of four New York couples dealing with issues like infidelity, addiction, and same-sex longings. The most lovable pair is Bek and Erin, lesbians who met online through OkCupid and argue about pubic waxing.
7. CD: Cheek to Cheek, Michael Feinstein and Barbara Cook
Mr. Feinstein's recent Broadway partnership with Dame Edna was a flop, but the gay cabaret veteran is much better paired here with Cook, a singing legend and proud PFLAG mom. Available January 18, this live recording of their sold-out fall engagement at Feinstein's at Loews Regency includes charming solos and duets of standards like "The Very Thought of You," "Shine on Harvest Moon," and "I've Got You Under My Skin."
6. TV: Fairly Legal
USA's new San Francisco-set legal drama -- formerly known as Facing Kate -- premieres January 20 and stars The L Word's Sarah Shahi as Kate, a disillusioned lawyer who becomes a mediator to settle conflicts. Can't Hardly Wait cutie Ethan Embry, who played gay in Sweet Home Alabama, will also appear in a recurring role as Kate's gay brother Spencer, a partnered stay-at-home father who abandoned his own law career.
5. BOOK: Sex in Drag, Greg Scarnici
Available at Blurb.com, this outrageously clever photo book features more than 70 drag-parodied images from Madonna's Sex book shot in Fire Island by Wilsonmodels and costarring nightlife notables Dallas Dubois, Logan Hardcore, and Go-Go Harder. YouTube comic Scarnici celebrates the recent release with a book-signing party January 21 at West Hollywood's Fubar and a photo installation at New York's XES Lounge.
4. TV: Big Love
Even star Chloe Sevigny bitched about last season's unfocused mania, but the fifth and final season premieres January 16 on Showtime with a renewed focus on the core Hendrickson family unit as they cope with the consequences of being outed as polygamists. But will out series creators Mark V. Olsen and Will Scheffer give Matt Ross's closeted villain Alby Grant (pictured), scarred by his lover's suicide, a happy gay ending?
3. TV: Skins
A gorgeously gritty American version of the controversial British teen drama debuts January 17 on MTV, but gay boy Maxxie has become a sexy lesbian cheerleader named Tea. All My Children alum Sofia Black D'Elia easily makes the semicloseted bitch the show's most interesting character. "You want to know what we do, right?" she asks a nosy guy pal. "What goes where? Who licks what? So tedious. I screw girls! So what?"
2. FILM: Every Day
First-time filmmaker Richard Levine deftly mines his experiences as a Nip/Tuck writer and the dad of a gay son in this quietly engaging drama, which premieres January 14 in limited release and On Demand. Liev Schreiber and Helen Hunt impress as a discontented TV writer and his wife, but this indie is a must for Ezra Miller's honest portrayal of their newly out teenage son, plus Eddie Izzard as a schlocky Ryan Murphy-ish producer.
1. TV: American Idol and The 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards
Call it a pro-gay biased tie, but we'll root for The Kids Are All Right, Glee, and Modern Family -- particularly nominees Annette Bening, Julianne Moore, Chris Colfer, Jane Lynch, and Eric Stonestreet -- when the Globes air January 16 on NBC with returning host Ricky Gervais. And as the revamped season 10 of Idol debuts January 20 on Fox, we hope new judge Jennifer Lopez can sniff out another gay superstar like Adam Lambert.
