Geeks OUT, a growing organization of fans promoting the unique LGBT viewpoint within the geek community, celebrated iconic actress and activist Sigourney Weaver with an art gallery exhibition held in her honor on April 4, in New York City.

Unfortunately, Weaver's current role in the Broadway comedy, Vanya and Sonia and Masha Spike kept her from attending the gala event, but that didn't stop her from sending a personal message happily embracing and encouraging her geeky LGBT fan base.

Weaver writes:

Dear friends and fellow geeks at Geeks OUT,

I send you greetings from Broadway where I am performing in a new comedy by Christopher Durang. I am extremely touched and thrilled to be honored by Geeks OUT as a queer geek icon and muse. It means so much to me that my work has been relevant and encouraging to the LGBT community. I support each and every one of you to be exactly and gloriously who you are and all you can be. The planet needs your individuality and talent and power to make it a more humane and respectful and fantastic place, where everyone is valued and celebrated equally. So rock on and geek out, my friends. Have a wonderful time tonight. Thank you again for this awesome honor, thanks very much to Jono Jarrett for getting in touch and going forward, and please come see us geeks on Broadway!

It's warm and fuzzy moments like this that remind us Weaver is far more than an LGBT icon or ally, she's a genuine friend of the community as well.
