Dave Isay is the creator of StoryCorps, a project which encourages people to share their personal tales and records them for posterity. What started as a booth at Grand Central Station is now a traveling endeavor, helping us hold onto our American tales.
During a recent TED talk, Isay discussed the impetus of StoryCorps and how his father's coming out, and tales of Stonewall, contributed to it. Isay sharing his father's story would eventually spark thousands more tales through StoryCorp booths around the country, and help us remember where we've been as a nation.
Isay's talk and his wish "to grow this digital archive of the collective wisdom of humanity" netted him the annual TED Prize of $1 million to make his wish come true.
