Can't decide which show to see? Broadway.com recently asked readers to vote online for their favorite performances now on Broadway.
Their top 10 must-see performances include out leading men Alan Cumming in Cabaret and Billy Porter in Kinky Boots. Other performances on the list include Hedwig and the Angry Inch stars Michael C. Hall and Lena Hall.
Cumming reprises his Tony-winning role as the flamboyantly omnisexual Emcee of a seedy Weimar-era Berlin nightclub in Roundabout Theatre Company's revisited revival of the Kander and Ebb musical Cabaret, which has extended through March 29 at Studio 54. Sam Mendes and Rob Marshall have re-created their Tony-nominated direction and choreography for the new revival.
Porter earned a Tony for playing Lola, a drag queen who saves a shoe factory on the verge of bankruptcy, in Kinky Boots, which is playing an open-ended run at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. Harvey Fierstein and Cyndi Lauper's empowering musical, which is based on the 2005 movie of the same name, won a total of six Tonys, including Best Musical, Best Choreography for Jerry Mitchell, and Best Score for Lauper.
Dexter's Michael C. Hall stars in Hedwig and the Angry Inch as Hedwig, a fictional East German rock singer living as a female after botched gender-reassignment surgery, through January 18. Lena Hall won the Tony for Best Featured Actress in a Musical as Yitzhak, Hedwig's husband and backup singer, who's desperate to unleash his inner drag diva. The Broadway premiere of John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask's 1998 cult rock musical, which won the Tony for Best Revival of a Musical, is playing an open-ended run at the Belasco Theatre.
