Tony Marrero watched his best friend die at the gay nightclub.
In his Orlando hospital room, Pulse shooting survivor Tony Marrero hung a sign with a picture of Dory, a cartoon fish from the movie Finding Nemo, voiced by talk show host Ellen DeGeneres. "I'm Still Swimming Ellen," the sign read. Now in recovery, Marrero appeared on DeGeneres's talk show Thursday to tell his story.
Marrero was shot four times and lost his best friend Luis Vielma in the June massacre at the LGBT nightclub, where Omar Mateen murdered 49 people and wounded dozens more. Marrero told DeGeneres that he survived by hiding his head beneath a couch and heaving himself out of the nightclub with the last of his remaining strength.
Watch Marrero recount the harrowing ordeal below.
