Donald Trump may be the next president of the United States. Then, it became real.

This was the anxiety expressed by LGBT folks on Twitter, who despaired as Election Day reached its end and no winner had been declared. Clinton campaign chairman headed to the podium and sent home the candidate's supporters, saying they'd have nothing more to say on Tuesday night. Election parties everywhere had already started to disband, some in tears.

But things did not look good for Hillary Clinton. The Democratic candidate, who had been endorsed by the Human Rights Campaign and a majority of LGBT voters, trailed behind Trump, who surged in an unexpected upset.

In response, members of the LGBT community expressed disbelief, blame, and bewilderment at the possibility of a future under a President Trump.
