Cuomo spoke to his followers on Facebook, telling them New York will always be a refuge.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo addressed voters who are feeling anxious of what will become of their future after president-elect Donald Trump officially takes office.
"Whether you are gay or straight, Muslim or Christian, rich or poor, black or white or brown, we respect all people in the state of New York," wrote Cuomo in a statement posted to his Facebook page.
Cuomo, who supported Hillary Clinton for president, wrote that New Yorkers "have fundamentally different philosophies than what Donald Trump laid out in his campaign." Though Donald Trump himself is a native New Yorker.
"So let me be absolutely clear: If anyone feels that they are under attack, I want them to know that the state of New York - the state that has the Statue of Liberty in its harbor - is their refuge," wrote the Gov. on Facebook.
"We are the state that passed marriage equality," wrote Cuomo. Many LGBT people are afraid that Donald Trump will select Supreme Court justices who may try to repeal marriage equality.
Thousands of people took to the streets Saturday in Los Angeles and New York City to protest Trump. "Not my president!" chanted protestors in both cities.
