Steve Bannon, the former CEO of the alt-right news site, Breitbart, is now his chief strategist and senior counselor.
On the same day that Trump made news for confirming his plan to deport millions of undocumented immigrants, he released his White House leadership team list.
Reince Priebus, the Republican National Committee chairman, will be his chief of staff. Steve Bannon, the former CEO of the conservative alt-right news site, Breitbart, is chief strategist and senior counselor. Preibus was chairman during the 2016 election, when the Republican Party adopted their "most anti-LGBT ... in the Party's 162-year history," according to the Log Cabin Republicans, a conservative LGBT group. Bannon has ties to white supremacy, anti-semitism, and has previously referred to students at the seven sister colleges as "a bunch of dykes."
"I am thrilled to have my very successful team continue with me in leading our country," said President-elect Trump in a press release. "Steve and Reince are highly qualified leaders who worked well together on our campaign and led us to a historic victory. Now I will have them both with me in the White House as we work to make America great again."
"I want to thank President-elect Trump for the opportunity to work with Reince in driving the agenda of the Trump Administration," said Bannon in a press release. "We had a very successful partnership on the campaign, one that led to victory. We will have that same partnership in working to help President-elect Trump achieve his agenda."
"It is truly an honor to join President-elect Trump in the White House as his Chief of Staff," said Priebus. "I am very grateful to the President-elect for this opportunity to serve him and this nation as we work to create an economy that works for everyone, secure our borders, repeal and replace Obamacare and destroy radical Islamic terrorism. He will be a great President for all Americans."
A source from the Trump campaign told Yahoo! News that Preibus was chosen as chief of staff because he has more experience being on TV. while Bannon is more skilled at crafting strategy in the background.
"I mean, the guy clearly knows how to get things going, how to get a message going, and how to push that and layer it so those things are going to take root," the source told Yahoo! News. "That's something people are going to like. I mean, clearly, that's how he's built Breitbart and how he acts on the morning calls for the campaign. When we're talking about messages he'll say, 'Let's jump on this story ... Let's start talking about this. It's going to be huge and we've go to go big on it.'"
Bannon has previously faced allegations of sexual assault and domestic violence. In 1996, Bannon was accused of domestic violence by his ex-wife. In 1994, he was accused of sexual assault by a coworker. Kurt Bardella, a former spokesman for Breitbart, quit working for the site this year, and says that it was normal for Bannon to make "off-color comments about minorities and homosexuals," Bardella told The Daily Beast.
