Feds Deny Passport for Gay AIDS Volunteer

Nearly four years ago the passport office refused to change my husband's name based on our marriage in Massachusetts. We were told at the time that it was a "direct order from the president." The Social Security Administration and all state agencies had already changed his name, with no problems. Our alternative was to petition the court for the name change, which involved hiring an attorney, posting notices in local papers, and, of course, court fees.
