I just had to pass this on! I was so happy when I started reading the article by Thomas Beatie - it is so amazing to see a man carry a child - it's definitely an option my husband and I would choose if circumstances permitted. I don't think that there's anything wrong with gender/ role reversal, even if it's chosen and not naturally occurring, as in Thomas' case. I was deeply saddened to hear however, all the problems he and his wife had to overcome just so they could have a child. It's truly monstrous when people can't accept others for who, or in this case, what they are. I can understand initial shock - it is certainly not something that you see every day. nd although I knew it was possible for years, this is the first time I've ever seen it. It's a fucking miracle, and people are treating it like a horror show. People look at situations like this, and they think things are changing for the worse, like everyone's going to be born a freak, for whatever unnatural reason. Even smart, supposedly scientific people, like doctors, who probably believe in natural selection, etc., can't come to terms with something like this. I think there'd be more men wanting to carry a child if they could. I think it's great that not only is he going through with this despite lack of support from friends and family, but that he's putting it out there, letting people know, and taking a stand for his rights. I can't wait to see this happen more often. He's obviously going to be a responsible, loving and wonderful father - which is more than can be said for the majority of 'normal' parents today.
