The Green Issue

While I do not oppose the efforts of "going green", I do object to the end goal -- saving the planet. I know humans are arrogant, but this proves that there are no limits our self-appointed importance to this planet. Simply put, the planet does not need saving. It was here a long time before we showed up and will be here long after we're extinct. The human race may be in danger of disappearing if it doesn't clean up its act, but the planet is not in danger. Unless, of course, we manage to blow it apart. The planet is a wonderful living organism that goes through cycles, adapts to different stresses, and protects itself. It has survived ice ages, earthquakes, pole reversals, meteor impacts, mass extinctions, and any number of other natural "disasters". Species go extinct all of the time. It's natural. By the same token, new species emerge. Honestly, the planet can, and does, take care of itself. We are not important to its survival. Actually, if you really want to help, how about trying population control? How about we DECREASE our demand and usage of the resources of our home? Little is done in this regard, and it is rarely mentioned. We need to wake up and admit the truth. The planet is not in peril, humans are. We are not saving the planet, we are (trying) to save our own sorry asses. I think we've waited too long. I hope that whatever species succeeds us is more respectful and deserving of this planet. I believe in the planet Earth. I believe humans have had their chance and blew it.
