Section 2 - Letter Details

Letter Subject:

DATEBOOK 10.09-10.23 (re: Angela Davis)

Letter Title (Pull Quote):

"I choose not to look up to, nor to sympathize with, terrorists and murderers, two adjectives which more aptly describe Ms. Davis."

Letter Body:

As a gay San Franciscan, I really do have a great fondness for your magazine, and have been an avid reader for many, many years. I must take extreme exception, however, to The Advocate's misguided spotlight on Angela Davis as a "gay icon" ("Datebook" - Oct. 23). I choose not to look up to, nor to sympathize with, terrorists and murderers, two adjectives which more aptly describe Ms. Davis than those your magazine uses ("gay icon" and "crusader"). I literally choked when I read this, and the first thing that came to mind was the recent tendency of the press in this country to print pure revisionist nonsense such as this, and passing it off as "history." Don't you folks have fact-checkers or someone to vet this stuff?

My suggestion: Google "Angela Davis." It won't take long to get the real story on this miserable excuse for a human being. "Professor"? Check out where she's teaching, and WHAT she's teaching. "Crusader"? Sure, if you like your standard-bearers of truth and fairness sporting illegal firearms and assisting in the unbelievably brutal, senseless kidnapping and murder of a Federal judge.

Jeffrey Dahmer was also a gay murderer, can I expect to see this glowing example of homosexual wholesomeness on your next cover, touted as an "ICON" for God's sake? I am quite simply appalled by this glaring lapse in judgment by your staff/writers, and certainly can no longer accept your magazine as a legitimate publication. Count me out...and cancel my subscription while you're at it. I have MUCH better things to do.
