Thomas Roberts announced today that his last show has aired on MSNBC, ending a run on the cable channel that included an Emmy win for breaking news coverage of marriage equality.

"I wanted you to hear directly from me," he wrote on Facebook today of his show, MSNBC Live With Thomas Roberts. "It is true I won't be keeping my current show weekdays on MSNBC. My last show was Thursday."

Roberts, a former host of The Advocate "On Air," thanked his viewers and praised his colleagues as "incredible people" who he said had become "close friends and family."

Roberts, who won a GLAAD Media Award in 2015, has always used his platform to give voice to other LGBT peope and the issues they face. "Hearing from you (whether positive or negative) is always an important thing for me," he said.

So far Roberts hasn't said what's next, whether with MSNBC or elsewhere. But a source at MSNBC said Roberts is in discussions over a new role with the network in 2017. "So what's next? Stay tuned!" he said. "In the meantime, I am going to be spending the holidays with my husband and family."

At MSNBC, he's moved around, with his midday show at one time lasting two hours. He served as part of the talk team at Morning Joe and hosted the Way Too Early show just before it. Roberts has made history elsewhere at NBC while filling in at Nightly News, where he was the first out anchor of an evening newscast on any of the major TV networks.
