Former Pennsylvania senator and failed Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum will be allowed to spew his anti-LGBT venom to a national audience as one of CNN's newest on-air commentators.

Santorum made the announcement via Twitter:

CNN also hired less extreme figures, including Washington Post writer Wesley Lowery and former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm.

Santorum is one of the most homophobic, transphobic figures in the Republican Party. He's compared gay sex to incest and bigamy, linked marriage equality to the 9/11 terrorist attacks, supported a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage, and opposed the repeal of "don't ask, don't tell."
