Ex-Trump Lawyer Jenna Ellis Continues Attacks on LGBTQ+ Community

A judge in Colorado this week ordered Jenna Ellis, a former legal adviser to Donald Trump, to appear before a grand jury investigating whether Trump and others illegally tried to influence the outcome of the 2020 election in Georgia. But instead of focusing on her legal obligations, Ellis is stigmatizing monkeypox online and criticizing the appearance of Rachel Maddow.

After a hearing in Fort Collins, Judge Gregory Lammons Tuesday ordered Ellis to travel to Georgia to testify. His order came after a request from Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.

"Prosecutors are interested in Ellis's role in helping to coordinate and plan legislative hearings in Georgia and other states where false allegations of election fraud were pushed," the Associated Press reports. Fulton County prosecutors have already reserved a hotel and purchased plane tickets for Ellis so that she can testify next Thursday. As a result, Ellis only has to get to the airport.

Instead of preparing to testify before the grand jury, however, Ellis has been attacking the LGBTQ+ community on social media.

On August 6, Ellis posted the following meme to her Instagram page. The image depicts a woman, the plus sign, a man, an equal sign, and a baby.

Below it is a series of men with plus signs between them and finally, an equal sign followed by the word monkeypox. She captioned the image, "Where's the lie?"

The fact that the event included the Log Cabin Republicans, a group of gay people who support conservatives, and a "MAGA" drag queen as well as a chairman who acknowledged transgender athlete Lia Thomas's she/her pronouns was too much for the former Weld County, Colo., prosecutor who was fired for poor performance six months into the job.

On Thursday, Ellis took to Twitter to attack a lesbian whose success has catapulted her from an obscure radio personality to a household name -- MSNBC host and author Rachel Maddow.

"Conservative women look so good that the left (who only have women like Rachel Maddow) assumes we've had surgeries to look this hot ... nah dawg, not a one. That would be your side. On kids," Ellis tweeted.

Right-wing activists have falsely claimed that gender affirmation surgery is mutilating children. Ellis is among them.

She often amplifies Tweets from Libs of TikTok, an account on Twitter that regularly engages in stochastic terrorism.

Ellis doubled down on her attacks on Maddow Friday morning, tweeting, "The left is *still* big mad that conservative women are hotter than Rachel Maddow If you're so mad about it, try embracing your femininity instead of looking 'gender neutral' or like dudes."

But users online called Ellis out, highlighting the differences between her and Maddow, a Rhodes Scholar with a Ph.D. in political science from Oxford University. Maddow was the first woman from the LGBTQ+ community to be named a Rhodes Scholar, an honor she was chosen for in 1995 while at Stanford University.

Ellis, who The Colorado Sun reports was fired from her prosecutor's job before eventually working for Trump, "failed to meet the employer's expectations" and "made mistakes on cases the employer believes she should not have made," according to a document from the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment.

Ellis has a long record of attacking LGBTQ+ people. For instance, she once said gay men deserve HIV, and she has misgendered Dr. Rachel Levine, a trans woman who is now assistant secretary for health at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the highest-ranking trans person in the federal government.
