"You think you’re a man but you’re only a toy," 2007, photographic series, Lambda prints 50 x 70 cm each
From time to time we like going back to some of our artists that we have covered before to see what they are up to now. David Trullo seems to be having way too much fun playing with ideas of masculinity, gender, drag, and anthropomorphism. Check out his site, Facebook, Instagram, and Vimeo pages. Upcoming exhibitions: "Coined," Lázaro Galdiano Museum, Madrid (September-October, 2016)
"The Madrilenian photographer David Trullo deploys a sophisticated, erudite approach to the task of simultaneously making visible and performatively embodying new lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer visibilities and histories both in Spain and abroad through a unique photographic language. By reworking traditional Western religious and bourgeois iconography and by using himself, other artists, and his friends as models for his works, Trullo intervenes in, and complicates, public debates about LGBTQ rights, visibility, and embodiment, and the politics of the neo-liberal commodification of progressive rights. He accomplishes this through stylistically diverse and politically complex photographic series, artists books, and performance pieces."
