Counter-Rally Planned to Trump’s Campaign Kickoff in Orlando

Activists for LGBTQ equality, reproductive rights, immigrants, and more will be at the counter-rally.

Donald Trump is set to kick off his campaign for reelection Tuesday night in Orlando. However, an activist group has its own plans, organizing a counter-rally, titled "Win With Love," that promises to be queer AF.

With over 5,000 RSVPs on Facebook, the event is taking place in front of Stonewall Bar Orlando beginning at 5 p.m. The event "juxtaposes Donald Trump's attempts to sell his 'Make America Great Again' mantra with those things impacting everyday Americans," including "an environment in peril, gun violence plaguing the streets, racism and bigotry running wild, and the reality of an uncertain future," according to organizers.

"Donald Trump has been an abject, unmitigated disaster for Central Floridians," explained Brandon Wolf, Pulse nightclub survivor and local activist, in a statement to The Advocate. "His policies of bigotry and hate have personally victimized people of color, transgender people, immigrants, and so many others. I look forward to having an opportunity for Orlando to show the world those values that helped us heal after Pulse: community, inclusion, and love. The message is clear: Hate has no place here."

The program for Tuesday's event includes musical performances, stories from the Central Florida community, remarks from elected leaders, and opportunities for attendees to register to vote.

A statement from organizers details who will be sharing stories and experiences. They list:

"Attendees will hear from women who have exercised their right to an abortion, transgender Floridians wrestling with Trump's bigoted policies, Hurricane Maria survivors devastated by Trump's negligence, Central Floridians of color and immigrant communities on the real world consequences of the president's racist rhetoric, people with disabilities facing roadblocks to critical health care needs, advocates combating rising sea levels, students of March for Our Lives articulating the failures of this administration to curb violence, and local and state elected leaders who have led the charge against Trump's disastrous brand of politics."

The infamous Baby Trump balloon will also be making its first appearance in Orlando.
