Maybe it was a "soft" protest, or maybe it was just a wish-fulfillment fantasy, but Nir Slakman needed to stage a dream wedding with a dream cast.
Tel Aviv is a very gay-friendly city -- famous for its gay parties, great beaches, and an amazing gay pride parade and festival. But despite Tel Aviv's open-mindedness, Israel is a religious country, and same-sex couples are not allowed to legally marry. (Same-sex couples who are married abroad can have their marriages recorded in the Israeli Administration of Border Crossings, Population and Immigration office.)
Recently the issue of marriage equality was raised in the media in Israel because of the upcoming elections in March. Maybe the Israeli politicians can look at these lovely pictures and feel a little less threatened about marriage for LGBT people in their own country.
