In an attempt to get creative in protesting the victory of marriage equality in Ireland over the weekend, the infamous Westboro Baptist Church made a big mistake, confusing Ireland's flag with that of the African nation Ivory Coast.

In tweeting images of the Irish flag alongside antigay and anti-Irish messages, the hateful so-called church reversed the flag's colors. "Ireland's is striped green, white and orange from left to right, while the Ivory Coast's is orange, white and green," The Huffington Post reports.

The mistake got the church called out on Twitter:

When The Journal, a Dublin newspaper, pointed out the error, Westboro tweeted that it turned the flag upside down to indicate that Ireland is a nation in distress. The church further tweeted that God hates the Ivory Coast too.

Many of the Irish and their supporters made it clear that in any case, Westboro's opinion does not matter to them: "We really don't care what you think," one man tweeted, while another posted, "Ireland hates your bigoted God."

Perhaps Westboro hates flags?
