Laverne Cox continues her ascent to full media mavenry with her latest project, a new documentary on the lives of transgender youth titled Laverne Cox Presents: The T Word. The film will debut on Logo and MTV simultaneously on October 17.
Hosted and executive produced by the Emmy-nominated Orange is the New Black actress, the one-hour program will explore the experience of seven trans young adults who range from ages 12 to 24 and live across the U.S. The project was first announced in April, with a working title of Trans Teen: The Documentary.
The T Word will address topics ranging from dating, starting college, antitrans violence, coming out, and playing sports. Immediately following its premiere, Cox will cohost a live "Trans Forum," where she'll discuss trans issues with the documentary's participants and take audience questions via social media.
"For many of us, the 'T' in 'LGBT' means more than 'transgender' -- it also means 'truth,'" Cox explained in a statement today. "The cast members in this documentary are fearlessly living their truths and in sharing their stories will send the message to other trans youth that it's okay to be who you are."
