I also like Bill Richardson but, Hillary has my vote so far.

I guess it's the best chance that my USA partner and I (a UK national), have got of getting the right to live together, recognised by the US Federal Authority, in the US, if we should eventually decide that's what we want to do. A right that every heterosexual US / international couple simply takes for granted. Paul & Larry

Green Gay
Mike Gravel and Dennis Kucinich are the only candidates who favor full equality for gay Americans. So naturally the Advocate doesn't include them among its choices. Exactly who is the Advocate advocating for? Not me, and not my community, that's for sure.

As a person of color I would love to support Barrack Obama, but the Donnie McClurkin event bothers me on a level I just cannot reconcile.

Jonboy
I would be happy with either Clinton or Obama. Giuliani if a republican won only because of his liberal social position. I am torn between the 'old salt' politican...aka Clinton versus the freshness of Obama however. My first choice would have been a libertarian, but none were on your list.

Frank Erdman
Not since President Johnson and the Senators Kennedy (NY, MA) has a politician spoken about the needs of the poor with such resounding effect. Senator Edwards can help not only the poor but the middle class as well achieve the American Dream. Furthermore, his record on civil liberties is as good as any Democrat, and we ought to have a Leader of the Free World who supports domestic partnerships, because that will send a strong message across the globe about the equal rights of humankind.

Dan
Hes the only candidate to make an official stance on the Gay Rights issue. Actually, hes the only candidate to even have guts to confront the issue!

Obama is my choice. Hillary Clinton is nothing more than a Jimmy Carter with a vagina--she'll fold and do what's easy and convenient, not what's right.

Tom
I'm tired of hearing things like "The Country isn't ready for a 'black, jewish, mormon, woman' president. For all the people that say this, I challenge you to actually vote for one and see how you can rock the vote.

Qris J
Any Democrat but Hillary. But I resent not having a full list of candidates to choose from. Screw your dumass poll.

Paul
John Edwards is the only one taking on the corporations that are ruining American's health care and general standards of living. (Of course, no matter who the Democratic choice ends up being, gay people would be insane not to vote for him/her.)

Anonymous
Anyone that supports equality has my vote!

Experience and track record gives her an edge over other candidates.

Gay Democrat
Why are the other candidates not listed here? Dennis Kucinich comes closer to everything I'm about than any other candidate, but I could live with any of those you have listed here, except for Mitt Romney. I'm also impressed with Sen. Biden. He seems to be the most knowledgeable and on top of the issues. For awhile, I was wondering about John McCain, but then he took a turn to the right. Also, when pressed on issues, he just clearly isn't on top of things.

Jack from St. Louis
If Hillary wasn't in the running, Obama would have my vote. I just think Hillary is more prepared than Obama to handle the job. Barack will have his day. After all, he's still in his 40's. But who knows, maybe Hillary would make him her running mate.

Anonymous
What about Kucinich? Who runs this poll, the Des Moines Register?

Michael E Kuehm
the republicans condone almost to a man the use of 'tactical nuklear divices' and that scares me. Barack is a new face withouth the attachment to the existing system that continues to seem to prove that it is inefectual and corrupt.

james wall
after the Defense of Marriage Act and "Don't ask, Don't Tell" any LGBT person who supports a Clinton should be forced to watch a month long marathon of Pat Roberton's the 700 Club. The Rev. Donnie McClurkin denouncing the LGBT community from a Barack Obama campaign rally stage demonstrates he cares much more about Evangelicals than homosexuals. Pass. The Republicans are pathetic. Period. That leaves John Edwards.

Gerrie Blake
She's just the best equipped. Period! Thanks for doing this.

Anonymous
She's smart, she's realistic, she's pragmatic, she's supportive and her election will annoy the fucking hell out of the religious right.

Shawn
I would love to see a Clinton / Edwards ticket. I honestly do not see Republicans keeping control of this country. The dems aren't much better but are the lesser of two evils. I can see a slaughter in the making. I believe people are staring to wake up with regards to the religious right and their brand of oppression. Huckabee is worse than Bush, Rudy is just an ass, and Romney is well, kinda strange. Am waiting patiently for this horrid administration and bad chapter in our history come to an end.

Louise S.
As a California voter who was fooled into voting for "Arnold", I know how worthless campaign promises really are. Lesson learned: don't vote for anyone who doesn't have a track record in government; look closely at those with a track record. None of those candidates listed pass muster 100% on our issues. Hillary brings the Bill Clinton taint, Obama has too little experience in government, Romney's and Edwards' vascillations back and forth show they can't be trusted. That leaves Giuliani- and he's the one who gets my vote!

Sean Ruddy
Some vote! YOU decide the candidates that we're allowed to vote for. Gee, thanks Josef.

You didn't provide us with a complete list of all the candidates. Being limited to the parameters you set, I have to go with Hillary. I would be OK with any of the others, except for Mitt Romney.

John, Philadelphia
Thus far, I am backing Hillary for President. She can help us out with this Bush Fever thats been running around in the world. It's been very hard to shake these past eight years. My body can't fight it much longer.

janey
would love to see a women president. if she doesn't win i like barack obama win being a coloured person

Please tell me that nobody who visits Advocate.com would select a republican...

Like many, I feel it's still too early to make this important decision. All the Dems say the right things about gay issues, but we saw what happened with Bill Clinton. He did more harm than good for us. Hillary is a definite NO for me, as I don't think she would be much of an improvement. I'm uncomfortable with Obama and some of the people around him. Also, his refusal to salute the US flag, and recite the Pledge of Allegiance shows a lack of respect for the nation he wants to lead. I'm not ready to vote just yet.

Morris
The Clintons are loved throughout the world and are only ones with the experience, knowledge, and capability to rebuild trust in America. Objections to her are created by Republicans who know that as a consensus builder she has the ability to unite America in a way that could end significant Republican gains for years to come. She also gets LGBT issues and understands where we can win and where we cannot.

Adam
Hillary's too moderate for my taste so Barack it is. I feel like she may be more like Bill Clinton than most think. He was too willing to cave on important issues, like don't ask don't tell.

Anonymous
I am a white, feminist lesbian, single adoptive mom and I think that Barack Obama can better lead this country with less baggage than Hillary Clinton. I have always voted Democrat and will continue, however I do not think that the country will be safer with Hillary at the helm.

Christopher Mullen
Barack Obama has a fresh sounding of groups of ideas with targeted focused solutions that appear realistic to bringing back our military with dignity. He seems to have good sound fical responsibility plans for children health care plans for parents who cannot afford family health plans.

JH
My absolute preference is for Dennis Kucinich, but I will vote for whoever becomes the Democratic nominee — anything rather than a mean-spirited conservative (Republican) in thrall to the rabid, religious Right.

how could anyone vote for hillary. as far as support for gays she is no more for us or against than obama. at least he isnt from the business as usual school

Jack Kauderer MD
His public stance on LGBT issues is disappointing. Yet he has shown a willingness to learn about other issues. He is capable of growing. He doesn't pander to hate grooups and special interests. He has a health care plan that might even work.

Gregory A Reece
Clinton and Obama will not win in the Genenral Election. The American Pubic is not ready for women or black president. I do not care who it is. How long they have been in politices. Who has endored them. Senator Clinton has to much baggage, that has carried over from when she was the First Lady. Senator Obama dose not have the suppor to the Black commuity. Also he flip fops to much.

they all suck

Hal
Rudy is a heavy-weight when it comes to really getting things done. He cleaned up New York, making it a much better place for all, including gays. I believe he will not do anything of substance to harm gays or their friends, much to the consternation of evangelical right wing nuts.

Kerry Kirking
John Edwards is the only candidate who has a consisent record of supporting rights for all persons, combined with a clear, incisive, constructive focus on, and demonstrated and effective commitment to, the issue of global poverty. Astonishing, since this issues underlies a panoply of others ("If you want peace, work for justice") and will be, plainly, the defining issue of the century. In addition, his funding sources are clean (check out Hillary's and Rudy's!), and he has refused to pander for votes by claiming support for issues he's just not quite ready to support (gay marriage, for example).

brian, columbus oh
None of these canidates are worthy of our votes. NONE!

Ginelle
I would like to see John Edwards get in as I feel there is some hope with him with regards to Gay rights and equality. Whilst he may still be sitting on the fence with the gay marriage issue, I believe that his wife, at least, will have some influence on him. I also see him becoming president as I think he is definitely a man of the common people and he very much subscribes to common decency with a fairness and equality platform to all.

Richard in Kansas City
I'm backing Hillary. I've wanted to see her as president since the early 90's and now I'm finally going to get my chance to vote for her. This is a male saying we are long past the time we should have elected a female president. Now we have the chance to elect a bright, intellectual, competent, pro-glbt female. Go Hillary Go!

Robert O. Day
She has what it takes to get the job done

Maxfabien
I don't trust Hillary. Obama has a way with words, but I don't feel he can convert the words into action. He is still wet behind the ears, I think he can be swayed too easily by outside forces that I don't like, just as W was, and still is. Edwards seems to be the most sincere about what he says and what he stands for.

bryan johnson
i campaigned for her husband while i was being discharged for being gay from the navy. my commanding officer had the humanity to put my 'other than honorable' discharge on hold until the election, as mr. clinton had made the promise he would lift the ban on gays. we all know the story, and i have the 'oth' discharge to show for it. i'll vote for her in the general election, but i can no longer trust a clinton.

Dan Wilcox
If our nominee is Clinton (a woman) or Obama (a black) we will be giving the Republicans the Presidency. The people of this country still so ignorant that they won't trust either one.

Marsha Mynk
I want to see a woman break the ultimate "glass ceiling!" Now, finally, we have a serious possibility. It is also nice that I happen to really like the Clinton's.

alan david
I prefer Obama but of course I would vote for Hillary over any Republican.

Joseph
Dennis Kucinich

William Severson
I will under no circumstance vote for a republican. I increasingly vote for the least worse candidate in relation to damage to the US particularly its constitution. I do not think that any of the democratic candidates are best for the country. So as usual for almost all of my adult life I vote for the least worse of the candidate choices I'm given. Bush has been an absolute disaster for the US in terms of money, GLBTQ issues, our face to other nations and in shear stupidity. He has sullied the republican party to where I want that party to disappear now!

Anonymous
None of the above. I'm backing Bill Richardson and you should have him and all of the candidates in your list.

Hillary is the only candidate with the balls to get things done. We need strength and she's got it. If Mitt Romney wins, I am moving to South America.

Jim
Any self respecting GLBT person who votes for any Republican is a fool. You are voting for a party platform that states in writing they are against equal marriage rights, civil unions or any other "marriage like" government sanctioned union. In addition the Republican platform states it's the party position to oppose nondiscrimination laws in employment and adoption that include sexual orientation. While some individual Republicans, like Schwarzenegger, may say they are in favor of "some" rights for GLBT people, the FACT OF THE MATTER is that they are members of a political pary that officially supports laws and policies against us. How can any self respecting GLBT vote for anyone associated with that party? It's like a Jew voting for a Nazi party member. Get real people and wake up - especially you Log Cabin types!

Ed Dempewolf
Hillary in O8, and in 2012. Revenge is sweet for our community of leaders and administrators who have been forced out of federal appointments by the Bush/Cheney witch hunts.

John Edwards is the most left of the bunch, then Obama, then Hillary. I'd like Edwards or Obama to win, but I would vote for Hillary is she's nominated.

Edwards, because he is the only one specifically targeting corporate control of this country. None of them are 100 percent on gay issues. And as a MA resident, I can say that Romney is a total phoney. Just remember Mitt rhymes with Shit !!!!!

I just don't trust Clinton, Edwards is too polished for my comfort level (and too Southern), also don't trust Giuliani and Romney is just plain out of the question. Kind of hesitant about Obama as well (too much Oprah!), but he may very well be our best choice.

If Al were running I would support him. It seems to be that Hillary would be the most able to handle the inevitable Republican smear campaign. This is the way they run even in good times. Now that they are desperate the attacks will be even more ridiculous, vicious and slimy. Hillary won't have a learning curve on this. The others may stunned into ineptitude like Kerry was.

Camille Hopkins
Where is Dennis Kucinich? He's the only true gay friendly candidate.

Anonymous
It is definitely time for change. Hillary is old school. Obama is a breath of fresh air. Just what America needs!

Anonymous
I am mystified by why all these people think the Clintons were "so good" for the LGBT community. The only 2 pieces of legislation on LGBT issues Bill enacted were "don't ask, don't tell" (refining the ban on gays in the military and breaking his promise to lift it) and the Defense of Marriage Act. They've proven they will throw anyone under the bus if it is politically expedient. And Barack is campaigning in South Carolina with a prominent anti-gay minster at his side. Wake up, people.

I am woman here me roar....I think she can do the best job. I don't think any candidate is going to get us out of the mess were in in 4 years....so I give them credit for wanting to at least try. Or maybe they just want to rule the country...seems like our man now has taken over and only he decides what's going into law not the voters. Ok...I got a little side tracked...just my opinion

Anonymous
43 Men have held the post of President. A woman would be the biggest change and I believe the best change for this country. My dream is still Clinton/Obama, but unfortunately, I don't believe that will happen.

Doug
I got to back Ron Paul because I feel that really wants to preserve our US culture.

Bill in Orlando
Voting in the 2008 election will be a difficult one for me. I've been a Barry Goldwater Conservative Republican for over fifty years. At this point I favor Giuliani . Should he becomes the Republican candidate, then his choice of VP will influence my decision making. In any regard, my options will remain open. Sadly, I believe all politicians do promise; do spin; do blow enough smoke up our collective asses to pollute us and speed up global warming as well.

Anonymous
Bush / Clinton / Bush / Clinton is just too dynastic.

While I can understand the need to limit the results, I think you guys should have included an 'other' option. As for myself, I'll be voting for Dennis Kucinich.

Why didn't you include Dennis Kucinich's name in the list? Unless I missed something, he is still running and is the most pro-gay candidate of them all.

Dennis Kucinich

Actually, I like Senator Joe Biden but you did not include him in this poll. However, the more I see of Obama the more I like the guy!

BLR
Anyone but Hillary. Gays have overwhlemingly embraced Hillary, but we need to realize that she is not our ally. She wants our votes, but isn't willing to stand up for us and do the right thing.

Susan
I'm not thrilled with any of the candidates. Kucinich is the only one who actually seems to consider the LGBT community as "included as Human Beings" but we all know he doesn't have a chance in heck....so: let's try a woman. If Romney or Huckabee wins, I'm going to find another country and ex-pat.

Anonymous
Obama is a leader that would help our standing in the world more then any other. To have a man who has a Kenyan father, went to school in Indonesia would help repair the damage our current president has done and make it harder for radicals to recruit members to go after the "big bad" United States

Stephen D. Jerome
I have long admired her. I believe that after the disaster we have had in the white house, we need people of the stature of the Clintons so as to once again have this country respected world wide.

Rick
My pick is John Edwards, but I'll definitely vote for ANY Democrat!

Anonymous
Obama/Kucinich or Kucinich/Obama ticket. As a lifelong Republican. How about them apples...

Anonymous
kind of tired of the "same ole, same ole" so why not give barrack a chance. we need a change and none of the other candidates seem to offer that.

Dolly
Hillary Clinton has the diplomatic experience and she will also know the movers and shakers in Washington. When her husband left office we had a zerro deficit and we were at peace with other nations. She is not hateful of gay people as are most of the other candidates. We need her expertise as well as her husband's. I think it is pitiful the way some people have mocked her in cartoons on the web. I am sick of hate mongers and there are lots of them out there.

Anonymous
ANY Democrat would be better than ANY Republican. That having been said, Edwards stands the best chance.

Rico Camacho
I am torn - but since you didn't include Dennis Kucinich - I couldn't vote my true opinion.... Is this a "Bush style democracy"? He has the heart - a trait we have sorely been in short supply in a presidency. He has ALL the characteristics of the president I dream about. Democrats have lost the true definition of DEMocracy. We only see the true sense of truth and warmth from Dennis Kucinich.

It's a shame you didn't include Biden in there.

I like both John Edwards and Barack Obama, but think Hillary has the best chance of combatting the Republicans. It is imperative that the Democrats get the Republicans out fo the White House.

Misty Chalker
Why not have another 8 great years, or Clintons

Rich Costabile
I will vote for Al Gore if he enters the race! But for the moment, Mr. Edwards has my vote, as a sincere, hard-working, honest guy.

Anonymous
I have to say this is a rather stupid poll. There are other candidates besides those listed so listing only those will naturally provide a very biased response. I realize this is not a scientific poll, but even so.... At the moment, I personally favor Joe Biden.

Andre
Despite the snafu earlier this year with his Southern Gospel Tour, Obama's votes have repeatedly shown support for our community.

Not overly enthused by any of the candidates. We have just got to get the Republicans out of the White House.

The dream ticket...Clinton/Obama!!

Anonymous
As a registered Republican I feel most comfortable with Giulinani. My second choice would be Edwards. While gay issues are important to me, it would be nice to have someone who is a little more middle of the road overall than most of the candidates are.

Anonymous
A recent CNN poll shows John Edwards beating any of the four leading Republican candidates--Huckabee by 25%, Romney by 22%, McCain by 8%, and Giuliani by 11%.

Anonymous
He's the only one with a record of fighting & winning against the mega corporations who are now controlling our government. It's those same corporations that are suppressing news about Edwards to minimize the effectiveness of his campaign. I feel he is genuinely a good person who will forward the goals of the gay movement. Marriage is not a federal issue and I believe that Edwards would do nothing to block any state from recognizing it.

Art in SF
Obama and Edwards have BOTH come out radically opposed to same-sex marriage, and have said other questionable things about Gays. Giuliani & Romeny are both Republicans, and you simply can NOT trust a Republican to be anything but an evil, greedy, lying, self-serving hypocrite. That leaves Hillary, who is ballsy enough to fight for what she believes in. She's smart, funny, power-savvy, and just the right person to fix all the mess that Bush and his cronies have made during the last 8 years.

Craig King
Obama seems to be the only sensible candidate for the job. The mere process of elimination excludes all the Republicans, and if either Hillary or John Edwards gets the Democratic nod, the opposition will be merciless in their attacks. To do the same towards Obama would make them appear racist at best. Also, both Edwards and Clinton are closet conservatives on several planks in their platforms. Barack Obama is the only truly progressive candidate running in 2008.

Anonymous
She's the change AND experience candidate! She's our girl! Go Hillary Go!! --philip

Lamont
I think being outside the washington beltway "Good ole' Boy Newtork" is a positive thing. As long as things continue as they have, we'll never see change. And like Kennedy and religion, I think it is time for us to over look race, and vote for a good candidate.

Luis
Since a woman is more likely to have a gay friend she will have a better understanding of our situation and my sympathize for our community.

Anonymous
No comment! He is the best qualified!

Laurie Green
Hard decision, I admire both Barack Obama and John Edwards. However I just feel that the war crisis we are in right now mandates a president with the background and plan to get this war ended and our troops back home. I feel that Hillary Clinton leads the pack in this area, as well as in health care issues. Regarding LGBT issues, I feel that we stand a fairly equal chance with any of the 3 - Barack, Hillary or John.

Anonymous
As of today, none of the above. Dennis Kucinich.

Cesar Jay
Compared to the other Dem hopefuls, Senator Clinton has a better understanding of how contry runs. As first lady she sat in the passenger seat while her husband ran the country. For 8 years she saw and learned what it takes to run this country. NOW, more then ever she is ready to take the driving wheel her self and put this country on the right course and out of the shadowy alley ways it is currently being driven in.

Anonymous
he's least likely to be a bush democrat. unlike hilary and barack and mitt.

Michael Harwood
There are pros and cons to each of the candidates but the BEST candidate overall is Hillary Clinton. Having said that, I am actually happy with all of the potential Democratic nominees and will support whomever gets the Democratic nod.

Anonymous
Of all the candidates, I think that she will be the most likely to eventually push for GLBT equality.

Harold Hughes
None of the above- Dennis Kucinich. The Clintons gave us DADT and DOMA, Edwards doesn't believe in marriage equality, and Obama panders to homophobes in the clergy with McClurkin. And no way would I EVER vote for a Republican!

Debbie
As of right now it's Hillary. She seems to be the most likely canadite to back LGBT issues, but looks can be deceiving.

Andrea Martens
I'm disappointed you've only included the media anointed front runners. I'm backing Dennis Kucinich for many reasons, not only is the ONLY candidate to support full marriage rights for all but I firmly believe his idea for "strength through peace" must be embraced if we are to end the current and seemingly endless cycle of violence.

oaklandgayasian
Edwards can win against any of the republicans.

Louis-Michel
Edwards is the most viable Democratic candidate. Hillary will cause to many rabid conservatives to come out and vote against Demo candidates. Obama has too little experience--look at W. Another GOP president--heave help this country if that were to transpire.

political junkie
Hillary for president! Hillary is smart, intelligent, experienced and quite likeable. I'm not interested in the Obama so-called "charisma." He's in over his head, and he does not have sufficient experience. I'm not voting for someone just for "change" sake or because Oprah says he has vision. What vision? Hillary is more than sufficient change after the stupidity and inexperience we've lived through for the past seven years with the current moron-in-chief. John Edwards would be my second choice for president. And I'm absolutely not voting for a Repug particularly the most dangerous slimey piece of garbage on the ballot, Romney. Huckabee is a simpleton fundie and easily beatable.

I still think that Edwards is the man for the job all the way around and I would like to see Obama take the nod to be VP on the ticket. It hink this combination is our only hope of between 12 and 16 years of democratic leadership.

Jeff Shelby
Dennis Kucinich is the only candidate who supports full marriage rights for same-sex couples. He is also the only candidate who supports a single-payer health care system.

Just Mikey
I was a Barack Obama supporter but he lost my vote when he got in bed with Childhood sexual abuse minister and blame the gays extremist Donnie MacClurkin who obviously has mental problems and is tortured about his own sexuality and the guilt of liking the gay lifestyle. I cannot support a candidate who courts the conservative black (or any other race) church community who wishes me and my Gay family dead. This is Genocide speech out of very ignorant mouths. Barack really disappointed with his very weak and haphazard comments that I just felt that he does not have enough experience beyond the plight of Black America (which needs attention from all candidates) but not at the cost of my Gay Equality and the right to choose whom I love.

Kurt Vedder
Hillary is by far the best candidate for so many reasons. Mainly because she has the backbone needed to run the country and bring us back to the top. We are in a sad sad shape thanks to Bush and his horrible politics and it is time we have someone back in that office with a brain.

OB
Although I will vote for whichever Democrat is on the ballot in the general election, I'm backing John Edwards. Hillary is, in my view, an un-prinicipled politico who can't be trusted to reward her supporters if it's politically inconvenient for her. Let's not all develop a case of amnesia about who signed DOMA, shall we? Bill sold us out on DADT and DOMA, so I won't feel all warm and cozy about having either of the Clintons back in the white house! Plus, the right wing media will turn themselves inside out to paralyze a Hillary regime, should she be so unlucky as to get elected. Obama is a better choice than Hillary, he definitely seems trustworthy, tough, smart and principled. Edwards is all that plus he seems to genuinely willing to fight for populist ideals such as working folks, a living wage, national health care, and ending the sale of our government to corporate donors and lobbyists.

Don Healy
Actually Joe Biden, but you discriminated against many of the candidates. I prefer my candidates with brains - not just good PR people

Anonymous
Hillary would be a great President -- She's smart and experienced. She's also shown she can work across the aisle with Republicans and get things done.

Anonymous
Where are Dennis Kucinich & Ron Paul? They may be low in the nationwide polls, but both would undoubtedly get more poll votes from your readers than Romney, & probably more than Giuliani too.

Steve
Anyone who can keep the Republicans from further damaging the Supreme Court would be fine with me.

Rodger Torres
Experience and a popular ex-President/Husband. It is also time that a woman is given the opportunity to run this Country and to help restore the tarnished reputation brought upon George W. Bush.

Kevin Olomon
So far both Hillary and Rudy have my interest. I am a gay conservative- with a few liberal social leanings, and I require a tough, fiscally-strong, smaller-government-minded president. And although gay issues are important to me- they take second place to huge issues important to us all like Iraq, terrorism, security, the economy and healthcare... Rudy so far answers my need for a conservative with some liberal willingness... and Clinton I like because she's liberal but with many conservative leanings. Time will tell... I will likely make up my mind 100% the day at the polls.

Bill McFarlin, Jr.
In my opinion, Mrs. Clinton is the most qualified of candidates on your list. She's been in the White House before, and has firsthand knowledge of the operation of the nation's executive branch of government. Her husband gave this country three consecutive balanced federal budgets. She would have a well-qualified advisor in former President Bill Clinton. The fact that she happens to be a woman is not important to me one way or the other. I feel that her experience in the U.S. Senate would further support her qualifications, not to mention her tenure as former First Lady. She would be coming into the Presidency from experience in the U.S. Senate, unlike her husband before her, who went from a state governorship to the Presidency.

Maggie
I love Hillary, she's my sort of politician, but my vote goes to Obama, simply because I feel there is a better chance of getting a democrat in the white house with Obama steering the ship than with Hillary. Hillary is too radical for some democrats and has zippo chance of attracting the more moderate republican vote. Obama might do both. IMHO, it's more important to get a democrat president this time around than it is to get my preferred choice of candidate.

Anonymous
Hillary first, then four or eight years after that, an experienced, seasoned Obama.

Anonymous
Obama and Hillary are roughly equal in my mind, but I hate the thought of the White House being Bush then Clinton then Bush then Clinton. We need a fresh name at least (and some fresh ideas wouldn't hurt either, but I don't expect this election to deliver that).

So you only give us 5 choices? Where are the other major candidates? Why is there no write-in allowed? My choice: Dennis Kucinich. He supports full gay marraige, so why are you ignoring him?

Ken Bleakley
I think Giuliani is the best choice for president in this election. Even though I am a gay man and a supporter of lgbt rights, there are other issues that recent presidents messed up and he seems to be the only one with brains to fix it.

Anonymous
Geez, even on this Internet poll you don't list Dennis Kucinich. Just like some Democrats want to exclude him from the race. Go Dennis!

She is the only one among them with both sufficient experience and a half way good record of supporting our community.

Ron Paul!

It is time for a lady in the White House Hillary is going to be a great Prez! She is a very, very smart lady. And with the right men and ladies on her staff she will get this county movin forward again.

While I am sure Hillary is qualified, it is time for a change from both the Bush and Clinton families.

Tom Brown
I would like to be able to support Hillary, but she tries to please everyone, including those who got us into this infernal war and remain uncomfortablewith the notion of gay equality. Barack is the only true progressive with a chance of being nominated.

It's way too early to make a decision about who I'm backing for president. But so far I like Hillary. Huckabee on the other hand, has shit for brains.

J.P. Johnson
Barack Obama is our most honest candidate!

ANYONE EXCEPT HILLARY CLINTON!!

Pamela
I really wish we had someone running that cared for the right things. Like the enviorment, jobs, health care, the economy and cares for all the people. Someone that could run this country with out the influence of big corporation and religious fanatics how preach hate and try to tell everyone who thay should live there life but can't seem to do the same. Someone that could try to fix this country before telling other countries how they should run theres.. Becouse lord knows we do not lead by example.

Anyone but Mitt.

Rex
well Im still not sure who to pick for Prez...but it will DEFINITLEY BE A DEM! Id prefer Kucinich for prez. but America doesn't deserve this man...a Man with Integrity, forward thinking, a man of peace.

Robert
Where are all the other candidates running for president? Where for instance is Ron Paul or Dennis Kucinich or Chris Dodd? At the very least you should have 'None of the above' as one of your choices.

It's about time.

Even if I would expand the choices to more than the 5 offered, I cannot find a 'perfect' candidate even if I narrow to gay related issues. So with that disclaimer I will plan to vote for Ms. Hillary Clinton. It seems that any of the Republicans are varying degrees of negative, though Rudy seems the best of a bad lot. I guess I'm old enough a pro-feminist gay man to prefer Hillary to Barack. Obama seems to have much less positive positions than Hillary Clinton. So Hillary it is for me.

alma
Barack Obama is my candidate. I 'm with Ms.Winfrey.

None of these bozos. Money has been going to Bill Richardson - who has a PROVEN record of actions in support of the gay community for years.

Bob Green
What no choice for Mike "lock up the sick" Huckabee? Oh wait, this is the Advocate not "Ethically and Morally Bankrupt Politicians" magazine

Greg
Edwards is an actual progressive, not just a creature of the media. Giuliani almost started a civil war as Mayor of NYC: if Bush doesn't start WWIII, Rudy will if elected.

JTM
Obama is not only a fresh face, he's a candidate who brings little or no baggage with him. Unlike Hillary C., who can't be trusted and will throw us over in a New York minute, I believe Obama will keep his word and means to allow gays a prominent role in his administration. I think he would support a gay man or lesbian as Supreme Court Justice, for instance, if they are qualified in every other way.

Anonymous
Obvious comment - not enough candidates here.

Hillary can win with Richardson as a VP. She is not perfect but we need a Democract who can win. The Supreme court REALLY COUNTS!!!!!

Matthew Rettenmund
Ambition is not a negative, experience is not a disqualifier. I'm not "hiring" a president based on who I like, but based on who would do the best job. In the case of Hillary Clinton, I'd still be hiring her if I were a like-based voter. She deserves it and we deserve her. However, I would be too thrilled to sit down with any of the non-Republicans.

I wish there were an "other" or "none of the above" option, but I picked Barack, as he is, in my opinion, the least evil of the bunch.

Roger Burr
Ideally, I'd love to see Dennis Kucinich get the nomination and win the election. But getting back to reality, Hillary Clinton is the best bet for the LGBT community. I think taking Barack Obama as a runn9ing mate would serve to strengthen the ticket, bringing in people of color and other minorites who may otherwise feel under represented. In short, NO MORE REPUBLICANS!!!

Max
As a Massachusetts resident, I can only hope that a state trooper catches Mitt Romney blowing a Jehova's Witness in the men's room while Mr. Hukabee takes photos for his MySpace page. Seriously though, I'm all for Hillary.

All of the above support a caste system for GLBT relationships. None of the 5 support my equal rights as a tax paying citizens... Dennis Kucinich will get my vote in the primary....none of the above, dems included, will get my time, energy, support, or money for their run for office.

Thom
I will be backing whoever gets the Democrat nomination, unfortunately the one I am currently hoping for is not on your list, why did you leave the other 20 people off your poll????

Anonymous
I chose senator Clinton because she is the most likely to support gay rights in her presidency, and the least likely to allow her religious background to control her leadership and voting. However, I would vote for Rep. Dennis Kucinich before any of these candidates because he truly understands that it is outright denial of the constitution to have anything but full equality for members of the GLBT community.

NONE of these bums. Ron Paul is the only patriot of the whole group

Larry
At this point in time, Hillary. Things may change but right now she is the one.

MYSELF!!

Can't think of anything better than a new, fresh, compassionate, intelligent, peace loving president without a whole lot of ugly baggage.

Anonymous
She has always been here for gay people, without apology. The time is right for a woman to lead. Men have not done a very good job, especially in the past seven years. She could play the gender card and win big.
