In North Carolina, Pride Matters More Than Ever
Charlotte Pride took on increased importance this year, thanks to North Carolina's passage of the insidious House Bill 2, which invalidated Charlotte's LGBT rights ordinance and all similar laws in the state. With Trump supporter Pat McCrory still in the governor's office, North Carolina needed a jolt of queer this summer, and they got it with this weekend's Pride celebration in Charlotte. Parade participation jumped to over 140 parade entries, with 3,500 individual marchers in the parade and many religiously affiliated organizations in attendance. Total numbers not in yet, but event organizers say the event has surpassed last year’s totals.
Thanks to Matt Comer at Charlotte Pride and especially to Jennifer Hogan at Hogan Imaging for providing these great photos.
