Thousands gathered to take part in Bucharest Pride this weekend. The celebration took place a few days after the EU's top court ruled that same-sex partners of EU citizens have the right to live in any member state. Opponents had called for a referendum to define marriage as the union between a man and woman. Romania is one of the six EU countries that have not legalized same-sex marriages or civil unions. This ruling requires these countries recognize same-sex marriages in immigration cases.
