Straight-acting
Peter Schneiderman

Anthony Pezzote has many truths to tell about gay men, self-loathing, and the masks we wear to "pass" in a culture that still rejects gay men as effeminate and weak. But he helps no one by suggesting that by doing so, we will magically begin to "come together". The truth is, we live in a brutal, dog-eat-dog culture in which all human solidarity is devalued, especially among men, all men. Relationships are largely based on advantages of class and looks, standards which leave out the great majority. Being who we really are may give peace, but it will not change social reality. To thine own self be true, but don't count on it.
