The Nashville Grizzlies invite us to ruck and roll with them as they get ready for the the Bingham World Cup to be played in their hometown. Grrrr!
For the first time since 2010, the Bingham Cup returns to the United States and lands in Nashville. Often referred to as “Music City,” Nashville is excited to transform into “Rugby City” in May 2016.
The Bingham Cup is named after Mark Bingham, one of the passengers who helped overpower the hijackers on Flight 93 on September 11, 2001, and the tournament is one of the largest inclusive sporting events in the world. This will be the eighth time the tournament has been held and the first time it has ever been hosted in the South. The Bingham festivities begin Sunday, May 22, and run through Sunday, May 29.
Thomas Hormby from the Grizzlies sent us these photos — well, most of them anyway — we also raided their Facebook page and some of their great calendar shots. (Thanks, guys!)
Thomas tells us that every year the team plays for a charity of choice, and this year the beneficiary is the Tennessee Suicide Prevention Network.
“We are very fortunate to have in Tennessee an organization that works with all people, including the LGBTQ community, to promote mental health resources and suicide prevention training,” says Jon Glassmeyer, chairman of the Bingham Cup organizing committee.
