With summer in full swing, there's no better time to get out and enjoy the sunshine with your pet than with these events and activities. Whether it's trekking across a national park, a stroll around the neighborhood, or simply exploring in your own backyard, enjoying the outdoors with your pet is fun and easy.

  • Charity pet runs: If you're looking for ways to keep you and your pet active while also benefiting a great cause, check out these upcoming pet walks and runs:
    • The Wiggle Butt 5K Fun Run in St. Paul, Minn., September 18: Part of St. Paul's Bark & Rec Day, this 5K run supports the Midwest Animal Rescue & Services' mission to care for and foster homeless dogs and cats.
    • Jog with Your Dog in Mountain Home, Ark., September 24: Benefiting both the Mountain Home Dog Park and the Humane Society of North Central Arkansas, this run, jog, or walk event is perfect for dogs of all ages and temperaments.
    • Race for the Rescues in Pasadena, Calif., October 15: The 11th annual event not only offers several different kinds of runs, featuring 1K, 5K, and 10K routes, it also features a silent auction and pet adoption fair.
