I, Tonya
Several LGBT-beloved actors re-create one of the most infamous moments in Olympics history in the darkly comic movie I, Tonya. In 1994, champion figure skater Tonya Harding's ex-husband, Jeff Gillooly, hired a hit man to attack one of her rivals, Nancy Kerrigan, at the Olympic trials. The film is set up as a mock documentary, with the principals being interviewed about the incident 20 years later. Margot Robbie gives a star-making performance as Tonya, while Allison Janney plays her monstrous stage mother, LaVona Golden. Others in the cast include Sebastian Stan as Gillooly, Caitlin Carver as Kerrigan, and Bobby Cannavale as a tabloid TV producer. Craig Gillespie directs from a screenplay by Steve Rogers. The film opens today in New York and Los Angeles, nationwide December 22.
