Wonder Woman
An act of resistance can also be an action-packed, visually exhilarating, popcorn-infused good time. And that’s exactly what the big-screen Wonder Woman, starring Gal Gadot, is. The first female-led superhero movie in over a decade and the first superhero flick ever directed by a woman, in this case, Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman has already stirred controversy over whether or not Jenkins’s résumé was prestigious enough to warrant her landing the picture. Spoiler alert: It was, and that a question that's never been asked of male directors who haven’t directed an actor to an Academy Award as Jenkins did in Monster. Also, a pair of women-only screenings of the movie at Austin’s Alamo Drafthouse had men’s rights activists gnashing their teeth and moaning about discrimination.
But at the end of the day, Wonder Woman has earned a 93 percent Rotten Tomatoes rating and has been well-reviewed across the board. This winter Hidden Figures proved that women can bring in big box office. Let’s make Wonder Woman the mega-blockbuster it deserves to be by supporting women behind and in front of the camera.
