GOProud Director Takes on Paladino
Jimmy LaSalvia (pictured), the executive director of gay conservative group GOProud, says he isn't too worried about the antigay statements made over the weekend by New York's Republican gubernatorial candidate, Carl Paladino, because he says he doesn't stand a chance of being elected.
"Paladino's remarks would be significant if they had come from a credible political figure," LaSalvia said in a statement to The Advocate. "They did not. He's got about as much chance of being elected the governor of New York as I do. I am focused on the important issues and campaigns of this election cycle, and don't have time to worry about the Paladino side-show."
Over the weekend Paladino called gay people "dysfunctional" and criticized his opponent Andrew Cuomo for attending this year's gay pride parade. Monday morning on the Today show he defended his statements.
