The Santa Ana, Calif., police have arrested a man on suspicion of a hate crime for hanging a noose outside the office of an Orange County gay rights organization in October.

According to Santa Ana police corporal Anthony Bertagna, the noose was linked by DNA to parolee and transient Marten Joseph Brandel, 45. After a three-month search, Brandel was arrested when he showed up in Irvine Friday for a scheduled parole check-in.

Because of his parolee status, Brandel is being held without bail.
